Chemotherapy
Nausea and vomiting are the body’s defense mechanisms against foreign substances. Nausea is a common, and often miserable, condition in connection with operations, radiation and chemotherapy. TENS is an effective treatment for nausea, which in contrast to many medications is completely free from side effects.
For the best results, it is important that the TENS treatment is prescribed and tested by a doctor, nurse or physiotherapist. Once your caregiver has shown you how to do the treatment, you can continue on your own at home.
To treat nausea with TENS, you use a stimulator that activates acupuncture points on the arm with weak impulses through electrodes on the skin. These acupuncture points are known in traditional Chinese medicine to affect several of the body’s systems and give positive effects like relieving nausea. These effects have also been confirmed by modern scientific studies.
For the best possible results, it is important to start the TENS treatment as soon as possible – even before the operation, radiation or chemotherapy treatment – and then resume it immediately after the operation or treatment. Your caregiver places one electrode on the underside and one on the top of your lower arm.

Place the electrode with the black pin on the underside of the arm, about three fingers from the crease of the wrist.
When the stimulation starts, increase the intensity of the impulses until you feel a tingling, buzzing feeling. Often you feel the impulses all the way out into the fingers, which vibrate slightly. The stimulation should feel strong, but not painful. Let your caregiver know if it hurts! The treatment time is 10 minutes per session, and can be repeated every other hour or more often if necessary.
Note: People with pacemakers must not receive TENS treatment.
Recommended unit for effective treatment of the above condition: Cefar Primo Pro
