To get everything ready at work before my maternity leave, I needed to spend long days sitting in front of the computer. I started using TENS for my first childbirth when my water broke. It began to relieve my pain and everything was working well. After a while, the labor pains became more intense and the midwife suggested I should take a bath. They took away the TENS unit while I bathed and as a result I suffered terribly intense pains.

With that experience in mind, I held fast to my TENS unit during my second childbirth. In the end, when the pain got too great, I asked for an Epidural and the midwife said we should switch off the TENS unit until the anesthetist arrived. But, no way! The TENS unit was kept on until the doctor arrived.

I think that all pregnant women should be offered TENS as a pain relief method during childbirth. It gives them the unique chance to be in control of the method.
